College Football
BCS:
It looks like major college football is heading to another train wreck this season with four teams being undefeated at this time: 1. Oregon, 2. Auburn, 3. TCU, and 4. Boise State.
I won’t even get into the one-loss teams that had one bad game and may be playing some of their best football late in the season.
Oregon has three games left (one against a ranked team). Auburn has two games remaining (one against a ranked team) plus the SEC Championship game. TCU has two games left (none against a ranked team), and Boise State has four games left (one against a ranked team).
If there are more than two undefeated teams left, then we have a problem. My prediction is that we will have three undefeated teams going into the Bowl season and one will be left out of actually playing for a National Championship.
Big Sky Football:
The Montana State Bobcats (8-2, 6-1) control their own destiny. They have one (big) game left at Montana (6-3, 5-2) on November 20. Second place Eastern Washington (7-2, 6-1) lost to Montana State earlier this year. EWU has two games left (one in the Big Sky against Idaho State and one non-conference against Southern Utah).

Moving Up or Not:
The talk has somewhat subsided about the Montana Grizzlies moving up to Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) formerly called Division 1A and finding a new conference. Maybe because there’s a new President at the University and maybe because the Griz have not had as great a season this year under first-year head coach Robin Pflugrad.
Maybe the leaders of the University have also done some research into how former Griz coaches (who had successful careers leading the Griz and won National Championships) performed after moving up to an FBS school. Their records are not good at all (way under .500).
Pro Football
Cowboys:
The Dallas Cowboys are in mamby-pamby land. They need to see a therapist. ESPN is reporting that Coach Wade Phillips has been fired. With a 1-7 record and the way they played in their last two games, the writing was on the wall. Jason Garrett has now been promoted to head coach – and he leads the Cowboys against the Giants – in New York next week.
Wade Phillips is a good coach and a better man, but he just lost his team. He was 35-23 as Cowboys coach and 83-65 overall as a head football coach. He had a better winning percentage then Parcells and Johnson as Cowboy coaches. He won’t go without a job for too long.
Chief at Raiders:
The game between the Chiefs and the Raiders yesterday was a penalty feast (27 flags for 240 yards). Both teams shut down the other team’s rushing game. The Chiefs rushed for 104 yards, and the Raiders for 112 yards.
With the loss by the Chiefs, they now only have a half game lead over the Raiders in the AFC West.
Besides being “yellow flag day” the referees lost track of downs during one part of the game, but it was corrected. It was a poorly refereed game to say the least.
The last game of the season has the Raiders visiting the Chiefs. It may actually mean something this year – and sometimes it’s nice to go back to the “old school” ways of AFL Football.
Favre:
Old guys’ rock and one old guy, Brett Favre, threw for 446 yards yesterday and the Vikings won in overtime. Although it was a win, things are still not rosy in Viking land. They still have a shot, but they must play as a team…
High School Football:
Best of luck to the Princeton (MO) Tigers tonight! They play in the second round of the Missouri High School Football playoffs.
